Lucas

What a day. This morning, I almost swear I had a glow in my reflection. Didn’t sleep last night, considered coming over to see her, and then decided she needed something to break down the walls of embarrassment.

As if it’s his purpose in life, Ted not only brings Allie down, but he ruins everything. I can’t decide if he is with her to hurt her or if he’s really that selfish. Whatever it is, it rubbed off on Allie, and I was too late getting there in time.

I left the office in pieces, but then I had my moment—after I took it out on the outside of the building and busted up my knuckles—and I realized something. She doesn’t trust me. It’s fine. Instead of being a sad sack of crap, I came out of the day halfway between pissed off and determined.

I need someone less complicated.

What is so complicated about wanting to get the person responsible for the accident? Especially when I know who covered it up. It’s a valid reason for staying with Kat.

Making her smile and forget all of her stress automatically deems me complicated? I don’t think so. Ted’s the complicated one and he smells fishy. And after everything, I'll prove to her what the hell a man is, if that’s what she needs.

If you weren’t ready to commit before, you shouldn’t try to do it so suddenly.

She was the one that didn’t want me to be part of all of this in the first place, and I have stepped up to the plate. And what does she know? It’s clear Allie moves into things slower than a damn snail while she’s wearing a hardhat and reflective vest. Why would I rush anything? It would scare her.

Okay, maybe I want to move fast, but when you know, you know. You know?

Did she honestly think I didn’t have anything planned? Please. She has to be coaxed into everything she does, so why the hell would I tell her that ahead of time?

She could give me some credit here. I’ve never truly courted someone before, so I’m not perfect.

But I have it all planned out.

Or had. Depends on what happens after this.

Or maybe it’s just me. The rest of the day passed in a blur. I barely remember anything Tom said about the schedule and coordination of buses for the games. The day couldn’t end fast enough before I could come get Jadon. He and I will spend some time together, just the two of us.

Then I will see her. I will talk to her, even if I have to wait around for her.

My phone rings and Kat’s name flashes like another log added to the fire.

She isn’t pursuing modeling the way she claims. I got to see a preview of her pictures from some shoot her dad paid for. They work if she wants to do pornography. I’m guessing that she isn’t exactly going for that, but her “job” is abnormal from where I stand. Also, it’s unrealistic for someone in her position.
